Teacher and Parent Conference at ESC Region XV:
The 2021 Parent Conference will take place in October at the Education Service Center located at 612 Irene Street. We are currently working on speakers to give both parents and teachers the latest information on Dyslexia in Texas. Parents and teachers are encouraged to attend either in person or virtually, more details coming soon.
Dyslexia Therapist and Practitioner’s Training:
The JPW Teacher Training Center offers a 2 year training course in Academic Language Therapy using Take Flight: A Comprehensive Intervention for Students with Dyslexia developed at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in Dallas. The prerequisite to begin this training is a bachelors degree. Graduate hours may be obtained for attending this training program through Midwestern State University. The Trainee must contact Midwestern State University for details.

Year 1: Midland/Odessa, Texas – July 12-23, 2021 Tenative
Year 2: Midland/Odessa, Texas – July 12-23, 2021 Tenative
Year 2 Training: Zapata, TX – Dates TBA

Rite Flight Training Reading Rate Training:
The JPW Learning Center offers Rite Flight Training to teachers. This is a classroom program that helps students with reading comprehension and fluency. The next training for this will be Summer 2021. This curriculum was developed by the staff at the Lucias Waites Center for Dyslexia and other learning disorders, at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. This is a one-day training, scheduled on an as-requested basis.
Multi-Sensory Math Training
The Multi-sensory Math Course is for teachers who are working with students who suffer from dyscalculia. This course enables teachers to teach these students from learning basic addition, subtraction through algebra classes. This is a one-day course and is also presented on an as requested basis.
