co-written by Jeannie McDonald and Friends
“The Teacher’s Pet”, a ladies’ clothing & gift boutique, was located in a small quaint rock house in Sterling City. Its opening was in 1978 by Kay Davis, Carolyn Davis, and Jeanie McDonald.
Because of its location on the main highway, its visibility brought in many customers through the years. Our tea room opened originally as the “Pie Safe”, serving delicious homemade pies. Then luncheons were added to the tea room fare. Camaraderie was formed with new friends from afar, as well as our local ladies.
“Come In To This House” is our second cookbook. Our original “Pet” cookbook menus are included plus newer sections. In these, the three of us lovingly present traditions from our distinct family heritages. There is also a Christmas section and a Dessert section dedicated to our “sweet” lady, Cecile McDonald,
Jeanie’s Mother. Barbara Barnhart Rallo was commissioned to provide he beautiful original artwork. The recipes throughout the book have endured though time… They will take you back to days gone by.
Although “The Teacher’s Pet’ store is no longer, our deep friendships and loving memories remain. We have preserved recipes of the past.
Our book, “Come In To This House”, is most definitely a labor of love from our hearts to yours!
